Bound for Southampton with a cargo of coal the Henry Brand was anchored in the Penarth Roads on 22 January 1890 when, owing to the force of the very high tide, the steamer Lord Derby collided with her. The collision carried away the stern of the Henry Brand & she was beached on the ebb tide & later towed to Cardiff for repair.
