The battlecruiser HMS Lion saw extensive service throughout the First World War. She was badly damaged at the Battle of Jutland on May 31st, 1916, during which West Hartlepool Stoker William Muir received fatal injuries.
HMS Lion was eventually sold for scrap in 1924.
