Ann - a general history

Owners: 1857 Henry William Ferdinand Bolckow & John Vaughan (Middlesbrough) Hartlepool; 1860 Thomas Richardson, Hartlepool; April 1861 (bought for £4,000) Zachariah Charles Pearson (b. 1822 Hull) (master mariner C.N. 93212 Hull 1849) Hartlepool.

Masters: 1857-60 Oswall/Oswell; 1862 Hawkins.

This vessel should not be confused with another Ann built by Richardson, Duck of Stockton-on-Tees in 1860 for the owners Bolckow & Vaughan.

Voyages: 1857-60 Hartlepool for the Baltic.

Ann had been cleared for a voyage from London for Nassau, but, leaving London on 13 May 1862, she sailed on to Havana with a cargo of munitions, coffee & tea. Unable to sell her cargo she was run towards Mobile where she was captured.

At a Prize Court held on 11 November 1862 it was found that Ann had breached the blockade so she & her cargo were condemned. Her cargo was sold in New York in December 1862.
