Thomas Wood - a general history

Masters: 1838-39 Cooper; 1839-42 J Wright; 1843 Gray; 1844-45 William Moore Thompson; 1846-47 Mesnard; 1852 Nicolson.

Voyages: 1839 Odessa for Cork; October 1839 six of the crew were jailed for refusing to sail in Thomas Wood; 24 March 1841 arrived at Falmouth; July 1841 bound for Cape of Good Hope; 30 November 1843 arrived at Liverpool from Ceylon; April 1852 left Sunderland for America.

Thomas Wood was abandoned at sea during a fierce gale which swept the British coast on 26 & 27 December 1852. She was lost at the same time as Independence. The crew of both vessels were all landed at Shields.
