Wingate Grange - a general history

Voyages: 24 April 1858 arrived Swansea from Havre; 19 August 1866 lying at anchor in Victoria Dock with a cargo of Shotton gas coal when there was an explosion of gas aboard causing a crewman, George Levrie, aged 24, to be badly burnt on the head & hands. A second explosion shortly after caused another crewman, William Hanley, aged 19, to receive burns on the face & hands. There was also considerable damage to the vessel; January 1865 advertised for sale by auction; 1 September 1868 arrived Liverpool from Hartlepool; 3 November 1868 arrived Liverpool from Hartlepool.

On 20 October 1869 Wingate Grange went ashore during fierce gales at Salthouse, Cromer. She was broken up & auctioned in November 1869.
